The brief
The client was building a new web based B2B video marketplace, with streaming and advertising technology built in, and had it in beta. They wanted a detail oriented QA specialist who could follow documented test case procedures, work in a ticketing system and fit into a scrum process. Experience with streaming video was a plus, the work was under an NDA, and the plan was five months of part time testing across six milestones.
What we did
- System and functional testing of the platform, starting in beta.
- Test cases run by the documented procedure, with defects logged in the ticketing system.
- Testing within the team's scrum process.
How it went
The five month plan became an engagement of more than five years. This contract has no public review, so we claim continuity, not a rating.
Why beta testing turns into long term QA
A tester who learns a product during beta knows where it is fragile. After launch that knowledge is what catches regressions early, because they already know which screens break when a related feature changes. Replacing that tester means paying for the learning curve again.
What This Means for You
Testing a product in beta? Start with a short engagement and keep the tester who learns your product.
