Device Coverage

Testing a Makeup Tutorial App Across iPhones and iPads

A makeup tutorial app on the App Store needed crashes, bugs and design problems found across as many of its supported iPhones and iPads as possible. The client came back for the next version.

The brief

The client wanted their app tested thoroughly to find crashes, bugs and issues, on as many supported iOS devices as possible. That meant functional, performance, and UI and UX testing on everything from an iPhone 6s and an iPad Air 2 upwards, with every bug documented with screenshots.

Why device coverage matters

A tutorial app depends on video and careful layouts, and both behave differently across screen sizes, chips and iOS versions. A screen that looks right on the newest iPhone can clip, stutter or crash on an older model that still has plenty of users. Emulators rarely show those problems; real devices do.

What we did

  • Functional, performance and usability testing across supported iPhones and iPads.
  • Documented every bug with screenshots.
  • Tested the new version when the client came back for a second contract.

How it went

Both contracts closed with 5.0 ratings, and the second one exists because the client returned for their new version.
